Leota Mae Stoffa, 86, formerly of Ottumwa, passed peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 9, 2012.
Leota Mae’s journey began Aug. 10, 1926, in Hedrick, the daughter or Frank and Mattie Davis. She met her future husband, Floyd Stoffa, the same year she graduated, in 1947, and they were married in 1950. Next came two little girls, Sue Ann and Sandra Kay.
Leota Mae attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa, graduating in 1947.
Leota left her mark on this world in many ways — a lover and a fighter, a humorist, a feminist, a humanitarian and a forward thinker. She was a survivor, an animal lover, and one heck of a sports fanatic, GO HAWKEYES. But most of all, she was a beloved mother and grandmother and a dear friend to many. Leota Mae embodied the human spirit. She will be greatly missed by many but will live on in our hearts forever.
Surviving are her daughters, Sue Ann Stoffa and Sandra Kay Stoffa; and her granddaughter, Rachel Dawn Stych.
Leota Mae was preceded in death by her husband Floyd.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
