ALBIA — Lloyd Alymer Morgan, 89, of Albia, left his earthly home July 6, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Lloyd was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Monroe County to Harry Oscar and Alice (Repp) Morgan. He attended schools in Albia beginning at Buffalo Wallow Country School.Lloyd married Ruth Pauline Spears on Nov.18, 1945, at the United Brethern Church in Albia, and to this union, three children were born, Ruth Ann, Sue, and Craig. Lloyd and Ruth shared 67 years of marriage and numerous adventures.
They moved to California where he worked for U.S. Steel and North American Aviation. While in California, Lloyd drove a city bus in Inglewood. In 1965, they moved back to Iowa where he returned to his first love, farming. Lloyd and his son, Craig, farmed together until his retirement.
Lloyd was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia and was a Farm Bureau member. Lloyd received the Ag Hall of Fame award from Farm Bureau in 2002.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Ruth P. Morgan; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Jackie) Johnson and Sue (John) Goode; one son, Craig (Beth) Morgan; six grandchildren, Noland (Melia) Johnson, Melissa Johnson, (Bruce Kingsbury), Erik (Jennifer) Goode, Aimee (Jonathan) Head, Joshua (Dawn) Morgan, and Curtis Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Norma (Bill) Henderson and Frances Spears; a brother-in-law, Irvin Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Alice; six brothers, Floyd, Lawrence, Harry,Verl, David and Dean Morgan; and one sister, Vivian Czerwiec.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia; with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Lloyd’s family present from 6-8 p.m.
