OTTUMWA — Debra Gay, 57, of Norwalk, formerly of Ottumwa, died July 8, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Deb was born in Ottumwa on Jan. 14, 1956. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Drake University. After 25 years of service at Wells Fargo, Deb became the director of finance for Lutheran Services in Iowa.
Deb was an avid cyclist and completed RAGBRAI seven consecutive years. She enjoyed reading, gardening and nature and was a member of a book club with her close friends. Deb was a generational quilter and entered several of her quilts in the Iowa State Fair. She was also an accomplished musician, playing both violin and piano.
Deb is survived by her daughters, Daphne (Brent) Monson of Des Moines and Phaedra (Chris) Strohmaier of Waukee; her granddaughter, Charlotte Monson; her longtime companion, Boyd Bader of Des Moines; her father, Howard Cudworth of Ottumwa; and her brothers, Dan (Renee) Cudworth of Marion and Dave (Cheryl) Cudworth of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Cudworth.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale. Per Deb’s wishes, her cremated remains will be incorporated into fireworks and launched at a later date. Deb was always an original.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Ministries in Des Moines.
