OTTUMWA — Kenneth Edward Newquist, 87, of Ottumwa, died at 5:40 p.m. July 8, 2013 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born Dec. 24, 1925 in Dudley to Ernest and Wilda Chapman Newquist. He married Violet Mae Glenn on Oct. 25, 1947.
Kenneth was a 1943 graduate of Agency High School, and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He farmed for 14 years near Albia and farmed near the Ottumwa airport for many years. He had worked at Ottumwa Hospital.
He was a member of North Court Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Violet Mae; three daughters, Diana (Perry) Parson, Sherelyn (James) Hornick and Shirley (Charles) Reid, all of Ottumwa; a son, Darrell Newquist of Ft. Madison; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Carrol (JoAnn) Newquist of Fortuna, Calif., and a sister, LaVonne Angus of Golden, Colo.
He was preceded in death by several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at North Court Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Hemmings officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
