SPERRY — Robert Dennis “Bob” Bell, 71, of rural Sperry, died at his home on April 21, 2013.
Born June 26, 1941, in Burlington, he was the son of Lawrence R. and Vera (Cook) Bell. On July 7, 1962, he married Sharon Kay Johnston. To this union, three children were born. They later divorced.
On Sept. 9, 1985, he married Janet “Jan” (Besco) Hausner at Parkside First Baptist Church on Potter Drive.
Mr. Bell was a 1960 graduate of Burlington High School, where he excelled in track. He was a fisherman, hunter and conservationist. He was very artistic with his wood carvings. He loved to spend time with family and friends. He always had a project to work on in the shop, where he and his beloved chocolate lab, “Boomer,” spent countless hours. He retired from J.I. Case on March 31, 1992, after 29 1/2 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; her two children, Seanne (Wally) West and David Hausner; a daughter, Terri Lynn (Kent) Luetger; two sons, Kevin Robert Bell and Brian Keith Bell; eight grandchildren, Jamie (Daniel) Pringle, Heidi (Mark) Calvin, Kayla (Christopher) Harkless, Jessica Bell, Jennifer Bell, Brad Bell, Whitney (Daniel) Kinney and Kaysie (Gabe Burden) West; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe, Skyler and Aiden Pringle, Kaylee and Karter Calvin, Bucannon and Logan Harkless and Ava Sue Kinney; three sisters, Joann (Doug) Smith, Sharon (Bill) Phillips, Vickie (Eddie) Steward; brother, Terry (Bonnie) Bell; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal aunts, uncles and grandparents.
The memorial funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel; with Rev. Randy Langner officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service Friday.
According to Mr. Bell’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and Burlington Wilbert Crematory.
A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Conservation for Big Hollow.
