OTTUMWA — Rebecca (Becky) Bennett, 63, formerly of Ottumwa, died of cancer on Aug. 14, 2013, at her home in Minden, Nev.
Rebecca Marion (Morrissey) Bennett was born Aug. 30, 1949, to Joseph and Rosemary Morrissey in Ottumwa, where she graduated from high school in 1967. In 1976, she graduated from the University of Oregon and taught elementary school in Eugene, Ore. She married Ralph Bennett in 1983, and they relocated to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1985. There she worked as a real estate broker and for the state of Florida as a public lands access specialist. She finished her career with the Federal Department of Transportation after positions in Washington, D.C., Carson City, Nev., and Sacramento, Calif.
She was a vibrant and sparkling person who enjoyed her work and excelled at it. She had a special connection with people and was adored by her family and friends. Becky loved nature, travel and her poodles (Jacque and Simon).
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Bennett; her daughter Caroline Davenport Riggs (Brian) of Seattle, Wash.; three stepdaughters, Karen Coury (Charley), Kathy McDonald (Brad) of Eugene, Ore., and Connie Roberts (Todd) of South Jordan, Utah; and 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Peter and Luke Coury, Stephanie Rauch, Brady McDonald, Blair, Grant, Hannah Roberts and Aiden Riggs. She has seven surviving brothers and sisters, Joe Morrissey of Sacramento, Calif., Beth Johnston of Keosauqua, Vicki Marcel of Saco, Maine, John Morrissey of Ottumwa, Charles Morrissey of Ottumwa, Jani Little of Lyons, Colo., Stephen Morrissey of West Des Moines; and 31 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Life Point Church at 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden, Nev. 89423.
