AGENCY — Ernest Lee “Ernie” Fite, 77, of 513 N. Oak St., died at 2:45 a.m. August 26, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born April 24, 1936, to Robert and Ilene Ernest Fite. He married Jean Coates on March 29, 1970.
Having grown up north of Batavia, he graduated from Agency High School in 1954.
Ernie had worked for Meadow Gold Dairy, which became Anderson Erickson Dairy, for 30 years. He also worked as a security guard for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 10 years.
He was a member of Agency United Methodist Church and Agency Lions Club. Ernie had been very involved in the Agency community.
Surviving is his wife, Jean; two sons, Todd (Sue) Fite of Ottumwa and Charlie (Pami) Fite of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Lori Utoft of Ottumwa and Cheri (Dan) Umphress of Morris, Ill.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Jane) Fite of Agency; a sister, Connie (Rex) Burk of Anderson, Mo., and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Scott Allen Fite and a niece.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Agency United Methodist Church with Rev. Jena Manchester officiating. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
