OTTUMWA — John (Jack) Lehman, 88, of Ottumwa, passed away Sept. 4, 2013, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
John was born in Eddyville to John Robert and Leona Estella Besco Lehman on Sept. 7, 1924. He married Gwendolyn W. Van Blaricome on Oct. 26, 1943, in Unionville Mo. She preceded him in death May 11, 1988.
John graduated from Ottumwa High School, class of 1942. He served with the 76th Infantry Division, U.S. army during World War II; he retired from John Morrell Co. after 30 years. He then went to work for John Deere and retired from there after 10 years.
John was an avid fisherman his entire life, passing on his love of fishing to all his children and grandchildren. He was well known to his fishing buddies at the hydro.
Surviving are his sister, Mary Katzartones; a brother, Joe Lehman; daughters, Ginger Lehman, Joyce (Felix) Borge of Muscatine, Renae (Mike) Boswell; a son, John (Fran) Lehhman of Hollister Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Connie, Andy, Bill, Casey, Matt, Johnny, Amy, Joshua, Aron and Jackie; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-granddaughters.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Leo; sisters, Ella (Sis) Gibson and Dorothy Terrell; and two granddaughters, Jessica Faye Peine and Jordan Rae Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Shrine of Memories Funeral Home; Rev. Gary Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
