BLOOMFIELD — Laverda M. Rupe, 79, of Bloomfield, died Sept. 8, 2013, at the Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born March 16, 1934, in Bloomfield to Everet Harold “Jake” and Reva M. Padget Wilkinson. She married Charles Rupe Aug. 22, 1952; they later divorced. Laverda was the Bloomfield city treasurer and clerk for several years and the HR coordinator for Greyhound in Dallas, Texas, later retiring to Bloomfield. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the Troy Mothers Club and had been a 4-H and Cub Scout leader.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheri (Gary) Sprouse of Bloomfield; two sons, Stan (Julie) Rupe of Corydon and Stuart Rupe (Sandy DeHart) of Fairfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers Leon (Judy) Wilkinson of Bloomfield and Loren Wilkinson of Waukegan, Ill., and five sisters, Lavenia (Marion) Davis of Des Moines, Hildred (Jack Pirtle) Gordy and Hanna (Jack) Kirby, both of Bloomfield, Lucinda (Ron) Knock of Williamsburg and Ladonna Piper of LaMesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Rainbow and Friends Preschool.
