OSKALOOSA — Mary Carter, 61, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Fremont, passed away April 28, 2013, peacefully at her home in Oskaloosa after a 10-year battle with cancer.
She was born Mary Jean Vandello on Thursday, Nov. 8, 1951, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Richard and Mary Hammond Vandello. Mary graduated from Walsh High School in Ottumwa with the class of 1970. On Sept. 23, 1972, she was united in marriage to John Carter at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ottumwa, and together they raised two wonderful children, Jason and Jill.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter in infancy, Heather Carter; and a brother, Richard Vandello Jr.
