---- — OTTUMWA — Irvin L. White, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Ottumwa, died May 3, 2013 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant after suffering a heart attack at his residence.

Irvin Lee White was born Feb. 16, 1934 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois. He was the son of Earl J. and Leilia (nee Phillips) White. He moved with his family to Ottumwa where he attended school. He was united in marriage to Joann Elaine Hall. The couple later divorced. On July 10, 1981 on the Iowa Wesleyan College Campus, Mt. Pleasant, Irvin was united in marriage to Betty Jean Chance Craig Ellis.

Mr. White began his working career for the James Dickel Farm. He then worked for the Dowby Refuse Service in Ottumwa. For many years, Irvin worked in the Freezer Department of the former John Morrell Meat Packing Company in Ottumwa. Work disability forced him to retire in 1972, just prior to the plant’s closing in 1973. Mr. White attended the Bible Missionary Church in Mt. Pleasant. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.

Those thankful for sharing in Irvin’s life include his wife of more than 30 years, Betty of Mt. Pleasant; four sons – Ricky White, John White, Joseph White and Dean White, all of Ottumwa; two daughters and their husbands – Rhonda and Roger Kenney of Ottumwa and Robecca and Jim Richards of Milesburg, Pa., and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His parents; a brother, Kenneth White; and two sisters, Eileen Hall and Joyce Beach, preceded him in death.

Per Mr. White’s wishes, his body has been cremated and there will be no formal funeral service. Friends may call from 12-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main St., Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family.
