CEDAR RAPIDS -- Mary Jane McVay, 77, of 622-4th Avenue SW Cedar Rapids, died at her home Sunday, May 12, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services: Thursday, 2 p.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Bloomfield by Pastor Tom Gibson. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Mary is survived by her husband Phillip; two sons Roger (Verna) Smith of Grand Mound and Max (Robin) Enoch of Davenport; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Pat Andersen of Moline; two brothers Kenny (Barbara) Rominger of North Carolina and David (Hilda) Rominger of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Carl, Lester, Richard, James Clay Jr., Donald, and Bobby.
Mary was born on January 16, 1936 in Wapello, the daughter of James and Goldie Mathers Rominger and married Phillip McVay on August 23, 1983 in Cedar Rapids. She had worked as a seamstress at Seaferds in Rock Island for many years prior to moving to Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1998 from Taylor School in Cedar Rapids where she had worked for more than 20 years.
Mary loved collecting frogs and wind chimes, sewing quilts and making wedding cakes for family and friends, volunteering at Taylor School, spending time with her family, and doing genealogy research.
