WHAT CHEER — Robert “Bob” Culp, 71, of What Cheer, died May 17, 2013 at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Robert Wayne Culp was born Feb. 16, 1942 in Des Moines, the son of Wilson Culp and Fern Rupe. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines and later married Jacqueline Lee Walker on Feb. 13, 1960. Bob began working as a welder for John Deere in 1972. After a 30-year career with the company, he retired in 2002. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was never too fond of social settings but he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Culp of What Cheer; two daughters: Robin (Wayne) Wright of Bloomfield and Shelly (Ken) Gardon of Des Moines; two sons: Carl Culp of Agency and Jason (Robin) Culp of Bloomfield; two sisters: Billie (Ed) LeClaire of Des Moines and Judy Adams of Pella; a brother, Glenn (Natalie) Culp of Bloomfield; his 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Wright, Mike Olson, Ryan Duffield, Travis Duffield, Branson Culp, Cody Culp, Shelby Culp, Philip Hemm, Kim Mason and Raymond Stone. Bob also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren and three very special caregivers: Sandy, Bobbi and Penny.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jacklyn Culp; a grandchild, Joshua Danner; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Culp.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and last until the time of service. Burial will be held strictly private.
In lieu of flowers the family would strongly prefer memorial contributions be made to Hospice.
