OTTUMWA – Gerald James Crossmon, 72, of 401 S. Lillian St., died at 7:42 a.m. August 17, 2013, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born April 19, 1941, in Orleans, Minn., to Gordon and Victoria “Vickie” Menzie Crossmon. He married Susan Cooke on September 19, 1960.
Gerald had served in the Minnesota National Guard.
A resident of Ottumwa since 1979, he was a mechanic having owned and operated Crossmon’s Auto Service since 1981. He retired in August 2012.
Gerald was a very good Samaritan, always looking to help others.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; a son, Dan (Tammy) Crossmon of South English; two daughters, Roxanne (Scott) Herber of Centerville and Connie (Jim) Horton of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren, Patrick Crossmon, Jessica Walker, Erica Herber, Tyler Crossmon, Taylor Horton, Athena Osteen, Amanda Farber, Courtney Schlesselman, Zach Roberts and Nicole Roberts; 10 great-grandchildren, Tayte Walker, Jace Walker, Tristan Herber, Timothy Osteen III, Aubrey Osteen, Tyler Farber, Bryant Farber, Payton and Brayden Schlesselman and David Roberts; and a brother, Randy Crossmon of Virginia, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Brinser; and a brother, Marvin Crossmon.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
