OTTUMWA — Yvonne “Bonnie” Mallinger, of Ottumwa, formerly of Sigourney, died Aug. 30, 2013, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born June 30, 1924, to Clarence Guy and Emily Evelyn Bennett Brace Engle. In early life, she was a professional dancer and dance instructor. At the age of 9 years old, Bonnie danced and performed at the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1942 and attended the Beauty Academy in Ottumwa. On Sept. 14, 1949, she married Robert John Mallinger. Bonnie owned and operated Evelyn’s Beauty Shop for over 30 years and worked as a cashier for Mallinger Auction in Sigourney. She served as president of Iowa Auctioneer’s Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lee of Ottumwa; granddaughter, Karolyn “Kari” and her husband T.J. Nydle of Rock Island, Ill.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dennis and Marguerite Seaba of Sigourney.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Aug. 2, 1988, and her parents.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney.
