Jack Scieszinski

ALBIA — John Joseph “Jack” Scieszinski, 90, of Albia, passed away Aug. 31, 2013, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Jack was born March 15, 1923, to Daniel James and Mary Agnes (Comer) Scieszinski in Melrose. Jack married Blanche Mae Brooke Nov. 8, 1943, in Davenport. To this union, six children were born, Sharon, Patty, Sue, Jack, Kevin and Mike. Jack and Blanche shared 34 years of marriage before her passing away in 1977. Jack later married Shirley Love in July 1979. They shared 18 years of marriage before she passed away.

Jack grew up and attended school in Melrose and later attended school in Albia. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-45. While there, he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. After returning from the service, Jack drove a laundry truck in Davenport. He later moved back to Albia and founded Albia Motor Company in 1950. He owned and operated Albia Motor Company until retiring in 1980.

Jack was an active member of the community, belonging to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Albia Chamber of Commerce, VFW, Eagles and the Albia Country Club. After retiring, Jack spent a lot of time in the Lake of the Ozarks and Venice, Fla. He was recently inducted to the Albia Hall of Fame.

Jack is survived by his children, Sharon Hansen (Gary Molnau) of Venice, Fla., Patty (Tom) Hannam of Albia, Sue (Tom) Kennedy of Sparta, N.J., Jack (Kim) Scieszinski of Albia and Mike (Marilee) Scieszinski of Albia; 13 grandchildren, Jeff and Matt Hansen, Shari (Jr.) Jones, Ryan (Cara) Hannam, Jill Hannam, Brooke (Steve) Cashion, Shannon (Dan) Lombreglia, Christopher Kennedy, Adam (Sarah) Scieszinski, Bill (Lisa) Scieszinski, and Chad, Tara, and Kayla Scieszinski. Jack is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Conway of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a son, Kevin Joseph; a brother, Jim Scieszinski; and a sister, Madonna Benson.
