Jean Troxel

OTTUMWA — Jean Farley Troxel, 84, of 419 Chester Ave., died at her home at 3:14 p.m. July 4, 2013, with her husband and children at her side.

She was born May 7, 1929, at home in Schuyler County, Mo., to Clay and Neomi Elizabeth Whittom Jackson. Due to the death of her mother, she was adopted by her aunt Susie and Cleve McVey. She married Harold (Buster) Brown Dec. 24, 1946, and he preceded her in death. To this marriage, there were three children born, Harold (Butch) (Shelia) Brown of Garwin, Sue (Bob) Thompson of Newton and Rick (Linda) Brown. She then married Raphael (Dave) Farley on March 18, 1957. He also preceded her in death. To this marriage, there were seven children born, Patricia Jones (Marty) of Ottumwa, David Michael Farley of Long Beach, Calif., Tim Farley of Ottumwa, Debi Bybee (Bryan) of Waco, Texas, Jack Farley of Lubbock, Texas, Tom Farley of Ottumwa and Raphael (Jupe) Farley. She later married Robert Troxel May 18, 1986, and they enjoyed 27 years of marriage,

Also surviving are five stepchildren, Janice Shackelford (Bill) of Jacksonville Fla., Janet Stoll (Gerry) of Huxley, Donia Ehret of Ottumwa, Joann Wee ( Steve ) of Luther, and Rodney Troxel (Sharon) of Swansboro, N.C. Jean is also survived by 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 6 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother in-law, Jerry (Kathy) Troxel of Ottumwa; and sister in-law, Shirley (Barry) Collett of Burlington.

She owned and operated Jean’s antiques in Eldon, then opened Jean’s Cash & Carry Furniture Store in Eldon. Jean attended Indian Hills and received her real estate license and then later operated the East End Country Club until she retired. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the V.F.W ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Shrine Of Memories Funeral Home; with Rev. Ronald Jewett of Burlington officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny (Bud) Anderson, Chase Anderson, Ray Buck Thompson, Aaron Short, Marty Jones, Michael Craycraft and Rodney Troxel.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6-8.
