OTTUMWA — Mildred W. “Millie” Rodgers, 82, of 142 Northview Ave., died at 5:55 p.m. May 1, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born Aug. 10, 1930 in Garden Grove, the youngest of six children born to Earl M. and Myrtle Young Wagner. Millie was a graduate of Garden Grove High School. She married Sam Rodgers Jr. on Aug. 2, 1948.
She was a homemaker and held various part time jobs including the Des Moines Register office in Ottumwa.
Millie was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation where she served as organist for over a generation. She was an associate of the Sisters of Humility of Mary of Davenport, celebrating her 25 years Jubilarian in 2012. She served on the boards of The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa and Wapello County Public Health Nurses. Millie helped with the founding of what is now Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties and was a Hospice volunteer. She mentored new Catholic converts through RCIA.
Surviving is her husband, Sam; three sons, Sam (Rebecca J.) Rodgers III of Deerfield, Ill., Paul (Joni) Rodgers and their children, Grant and Ben of Ottumwa, Tom (Moira) Rodgers and their children, Sam and Abigail of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert and Robert Wagner; three sisters, Ruth Arnold, Louise Foote and Pauline Fitzgerald.
Funeral Mass will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home conducted by Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
