Duane F. Halpin, 77, formerly of Ottumwa, died March 5, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
He was born April 2, 1935 in Ottumwa to Edward and Effie Mae Howard Halpin, He married Shirley Burton. They divorced but remained best of friends.
Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving is his son, Chino (Robin) Halpin of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Karleigh L. Halpin, Brianna J. Halpin and Casey Johnston (Ashley); 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Irene) Halpin of Quincy, IL; a sister, Mary Buckley of Newton; 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Halpin; two sisters, LaDona Jacobs and Rozella VanNess and his wife, Shirley Halpin.
Funeral services for Duane and Shirley Halpin will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service.
