OTTUMWA — Marguerite Van Cleave Cratty, 94, of Ottumwa, died at 4:15 p.m. December 4, 2013 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born December 16, 1918 in Pleasant Township, Iowa to Nathan and Blanche Decker Clark, the youngest of their 7 children. She married Sammie Burton Van Cleave on January 21, 1936 in Marshalltown. He preceded her in death in June 1964. In July of 1965, she married Clarence Cratty and he preceded her in death in December 1978.
She lived her early married years in Montezuma, IA and in 1942, the family moved to Ottumwa where Burt had obtained a job with the Milwaukee Railroad as a brakeman.
Marguerite was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with her longtime friend, Charlie Totten. She especially enjoyed spending Christmas in Texas with her son and grandchildren.
Surviving is her son, Gary B. Van Cleave of Baird, TX; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Shrimplin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present 1 hour prior to the service.
