OTTUMWA — James “Jimmy” Ralph Mitchell, 67, of rural Bloomfield, died April 26, 2013, at Bloomfield Care Center.
He was born July 8, 1945, in Centerville to Ralph Conner and Wilma M. Starr Mitchell. He married Jeanne Newcomer on Sept. 8, 1966, in Lancaster, Mo. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He drove a maintainer for Davis County for 41 years, was a farmer and raised long-horned cattle. He enjoyed camping with his family at the Iowa State Fair for many years. He was a member of the Monterey Christian Church and a board member of Davis County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Teresa Jarvis of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Jessica (Dustin Badker) Jarvis of Osage, and Cody James Jarvis of Bloomfield; great-grandson, Christian Jarvis of Moulton; brother, Gerald (Fern) Mitchell of Blakesburg; sister, Nadine Richmond of Moulton; sister-in-law, Carol Newcomer of Memphis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Olen Jarvis Jr.; brother-in-law, Henry Richmond; and two nephews, Danny and Sammy Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; with Pastor Bill Eakins officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at Burgher Cemetery in Davis County.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 p.m.
