BLOOMFIELD — Lewis Graves, 91, of Bloomfield, died Jan. 13, 2014, at the Bloomfield Care Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Stiles, Iowa, to Roy and Louie Stockham Graves. He married Mary Colleen York July 1947 in Keosauqua. She preceded him in death March 1994. Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a barber in Bloomfield for 50 years. He was a member of Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and Walter B. Schafer VFW Post #775 in Ottumwa. Lewis enjoyed playing cards and golfing.
He is survived by a daughter, Marsha (Jim) Davis of Ottumwa; a son, Mike Graves of Atlanta, Ga.; six granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Bonnie (Wayne) Glosser of Ottumwa, Mary (Gerald) Bragg of Bloomfield; a half brother, John (Charlene) Graves of Bloomfield; and a son-in-law, Ron Jones of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sheila Jones; grandson, Justin Lee Jones; and a sister, Helen Aeschliman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the Senior Center in Bloomfield.
