MORAVIA — Clifford Pfannebecker, 98, of Moravia, died Jan. 16, 2014, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Clifford was born June 9, 1915, to Gus and Elsie Henrietta (Osbaker) Pfannebecker in Main Station, Iowa. He married June Kaster on Feb. 11, 1939, in Unionville, Mo. They shared 54 years of marriage together before her passing on Aug. 29, 1993.
Clifford grew up and attended school in Moravia. After attending Showers Country School, he had perfect attendance through junior high and high school, which didn’t come easy as his trip to and from school was four miles, walking or riding a blind horse. He graduated from Moravia High School in 1933.
Clifford served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1944-45. He then worked on the Milwaukee Railroad for 40 years as a section foreman. He was a member of the American Legion in Moravia and the Wil-Rog-Mor Post 407 in Unionville. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball.
Clifford is survived by his two children, Karen (Denny Ballalatak) Hinote of Albia and Larry (Sandy Paap) Pfannebecker of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; a grandson, Michael Pfannebecker; three sisters, Emma Veach, Edna Russell and Ruth Johnson; and three brothers, Lloyd, Karl and Ralph Pfannebecker.
A graveside memorial service was held Monday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia; with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Military rites were provided by the American Legion Wil-Rog-Mor Post 407 in Unionville.
No visitation is planned.
