---- — BLOOMFIELD — Donald R. Bramschreiber, 75, of Bloomfield, died January 25, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born June 28, 1938, in Baraboo, Wis., to David J. and Irene Rawson Bramschreiber. He married Maxine Holder. They later divorced. He married Joy A. Hunt June 14, 1982.
Having served in the U.S. Army, he earned his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and his M.S.W. from the University of Iowa. He worked for the Iowa Training Schools for Boys at Eldora, Iowa, and Wapello County School System as a social worker. He was instrumental in bringing social work to the school systems. He was Supervisor of School Social Work and later became Regional Special Education Director for the Southern Prairie Area Education Agency, retiring in 1999.
He was associated with First Baptist and Bethany Baptist Churches in Ottumwa and served as a lay pastor for 15 years. He had been Iowa Legislative Chaplin for the day. He served in leadership positions for many volunteer boards including Siddhartha House, Southern Iowa Mental Health Center, Tenco, American Home Finding Association, Mars Hill Church, Iowa Foster Care Review Board, Forest Lake Camp and Conference Center, and Community Relations for the 8th Judicial District.
Surviving are his wife, Joy; a son, Brian (Shelley) Bramschreiber of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Tyler and Bradley; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie and Roy Hunt of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David D. Bramschreiber.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Marshall Peters and Rev. Tim Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Prairie du Sac Cemetery in Prairie du Sac, Wis.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lake Camp and Conference Center.
