BLOOMFIELD — John E. Ware, 70, of 17087 Valley Ave., died of a heart attack January 26, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born October 21, 1943, in Ottumwa to John Donald and June Eloise Crane Ware. He married Linda Hesse on January 20, 1967.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, John served with the 224th Battalion of the Iowa Army National Guard for six years. He farmed and for 32 years worked on Iowa Ave. at John Morrell & Co., Hormel and Excel, retiring in 2003.
He loved to build fence, farm and work outside. He especially loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; two daughters, Teresa (James) Huffman of Fairfield and Penny (Jamie) Collier of Brighton; a son, John Jason Ware of Floris; 10 grandchildren, Justin Marshall, Chasity Huffman, Maddie Collier, Kyle Collier, Emily Collier, Whitney Lee, Jennifer Ware, Jessica Ware, Jaylin Ware and Mr. John Clayton Ware; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, James E. Ware, Jack E. (Angie) Ware and Joel E. (Terri) Ware, all of Ottumwa; and a sister, June Burger of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Burger.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Albert and Maurice Overturf officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery near Floris with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
