---- — OTTUMWA — Brian Michael “Angus” McLaughlin, 79, of Rosamond, Calif., formerly of Ottumwa, passed away June 18, 2013.

He was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Des Moines to Clarence and Florence McLaughlin. He was raised in Adel and Ottumwa, attending schools in both cities. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from October of 1952 to September of 1955. He graduated from Long Beach State in 1962 and again in 1990. He came to Lancaster, Calif., in the mid-1980s after traveling many parts of the world including Hawaii, China, Mexico, Germany, Vietnam, Japan, Ireland and visited many U.S. states as well. For the latter part of his career, he taught at various local high schools in the Antelope Valley, predominantly at Quartz Hill High School, until his retirement.

He is survived by his brother Dave (Shirley Riley), and sisters Gail (Roger) Kinnard, Kathleen (Tom) Peters, Carol (Dale) Carriere and Jan (Tom) Barnebey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that he was close to and spent many holidays and vacations with throughout the years.

Brian was predeceased by his parents; infant sister, Mary; brother, Jerry; and his wife, Barbara.

Brian’s family and the many close friends he made along his travels loved him dearly and will miss him.

As per his wishes, Brian was cremated. A memorial of his life was held Friday in Lancaster, Calif.
