Charles Waller Jr., 79, Ottumwa


OTTUMWA — Charles Lee Waller Jr., 79, of 2405 N. Court St. died at 9:25 a.m. November 6, 2012 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born September 16, 1933 in Ottumwa to Charles Lee and Mildred

Opal Covert Waller Sr. He married Barbara Hannah on April 12, 1952 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2008.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 22 1/2 years, retiring in 1974.

Charles was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene where he drove the Sunday school bus and served as an usher. He was a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and had been a volunteer for the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary. He was a Foster Grandparent for James School. Charles enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

Surviving are two daughters, Joanne Norris and Vicki (Steve) Morrison both of Ottumwa; a son, Charles (René) Waller III of Columbus, GA; six grandchildren, Amy (Himar) Hernandez Norris, Rebecca (Jim) Potter, Scott Waller, Patrick Waller, Jennifer Waller and Kasey Morrison; four great-grandchildren, Kierra, Allie, Belen and Lorilei; four brothers, Larry, Dan, Gale and Russell Waller all of Ottumwa; a sister, Patricia Gardner of Springfield, AR.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard E. Rudisill Waller; an infant great-granddaughter, Pino Hernandez Norris; three brothers, John, Roy and George Waller and two sisters, Bonnie Campbell and Barbara Jean Smith.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Eigsti officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene or the Foster Grandparent Program.
