OTTUMWA — Judy Kay Davis, 68, of Urbandale, formerly of Ottumwa, died Oct. 20, 2012, after fighting a long, hard battle with scleroderma.

Judy was born on June 24, 1944, in Ottumwa to Donald and Lenora (Palmer) Hampshire. She graduated from Ottumwa High School. At the age of 38, she attended Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University, in Kirksville, Mo., to fulfill her lifetime dream of becoming a special education teacher. For the next several years, she taught special education at schools in Hedrick, Ottumwa and at Cattell Elementary School in Des Moines.

She will be missed by her loving husband of 38 years, Tom Davis; children, Jody (Todd) Williams of Ottumwa and Joel Davis of Urbandale; granddaughter, Holli Briggs (mother, Jodi Overturf) of Eureka, Mo.; grandson, Brent Williams of Ottumwa; sister, Linda (Bob) Henderson of Bevier, Mo.; brother-in-law, Reggie (Diane) Davis of Davenport; sister-in-law, Nancy Hampshire of Minnesota; nephews; several nieces, aunts and many friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Lenora Hampshire; parents-in-law, Edwin and Joan Davis; brother, Donald Hampshire Jr.; niece, Cindy Henderson; nephew, Josh Davis; and uncle, Jack Palmer.

Judy was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, teacher, and friend that anybody could have ... a kind, genuine human being.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, in West Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
