OTTUMWA — Galen Paul Cook, 90, of 127 Lynwood Ave., died at 9:21 p.m. May 18, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born July 3, 1922 to Frank V. and Anna Beulah Rodabaugh Cook in Monroe County. He married Marlene Beth Altheide November 19, 1977.
Galen is a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Italy during World War II. He worked as an office machine serviceman at Bailey Office Equipment and also farmed.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Marlene; two sons, Ronald (Jackie) Cook of Polk City, and Roger Cook of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Michelle (Barry) Grosvenor of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren, Ronald (Jennifer) Cook and Lori (Todd) Devries, both of Newton, Paul (Leann) Cook of Grand Forks, N.D., Kristin Cook of Polk City, Tiffany Cook of Des Moines, Phillip Cook of Madison, Wis., James Cook, William Cook and Matthew Chandler, all of Ottumwa, Michael (Dallas) Chandler in Afghanistan; four great grandchildren, Sean and Sara Cook, Anna and Ellie Devries, all of Newton; a brother, Donald (Helen) Cook of Albia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence Cook.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Griffith officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 this evening.
