ALBIA — Yvonne Joan Christy, 75, of Albia, passed away July 28, 2013, at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.
Yvonne was born Sept. 3, 1937, to Clarence and Margaret (Hornbeck) Summers in Afton. Yvonne graduated from Albia High School, class of 1955. She was a homemaker and bartended at various places, mainly Kenny’s Tap. She was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Auxiliary, both of Albia. She enjoyed bowling, Bingo, fishing and cooking. She especially liked spending time with her family and was a good listener. Yvonne was young at heart, loved being around all children and treated them all as if they were her own.
Yvonne is survived by her son, Michael Wayne (Debbie) Summers of Albia; four adopted daughters, Pamela, Vanessa, Jeanette and Annette Smith; and a sister, Delores Kiefer of Hampton, Ill. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Douglas and Shawn Summers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Evelyn Rhinehart, Mary Rowland and Margaret Smith; five brothers, Kenneth, Irven, Clarence “Shag,” Jim and Joe Summers; and one brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; with Pastor Brad Gray officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Yvonne’s family present.
