BLOOMFIELD — Donald William Payne, 83, of Pulaski, died April 27, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Keosauqua.
He was born March 31, 1930, in Davis County to Willie Cleo and Lela Mary Cowles Payne. He married Lydia Jean Banwart on Oct. 3, 1954 in West Bend.
Donald was a farmer and a stockman. He was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church, the Cattlemen’s Association, the Farm Bureau Association, and was a 4-H leader for many years. He was a founding board member of the Iowa MCC Relief Sale as well as the Crooked Creek Christian Camp in Washington. Donald was very active in SOOP, spending 17 winters in Tucson, Ariz., helping repair homes for the elderly and working in soup kitchens.
He is survived by his wife; son, Daniel (Crystal) Payne of Pulaski; two daughters, Debra (Roger) Knapp of Bloomfield and Donnita Payne Hostetler of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell (Bonnie) Payne of Lakeville, Minn.; and two sisters, Donna (Roger) Augspurger of Columbus, Neb., and Dianne (Gary) Knapp of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dwayne David Payne; and a son-in-law, Marvin Hostetler.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pulaski Mennonite Church in Pulaski; with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating. Burial will be at Pulaski Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with family present from 6-8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Pulaski Mennonite Church.
