Robert Moffet

OSKALOOSA — Robert Moffet, 83, of Oskaloosa died May 23, 2013, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa.

He was born July 16, 1929 in rural Mahaska County, the son of Albert and Bertha Wassenhoven Moffet. Early in life he worked on the family farm. On Jan. 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Barbara Dunsmoor in Oskaloosa. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1953. Following his discharge he went to work at Western Auto, and gave guitar lessons at Layton’s in Oskaloosa. He did construction work for a time. Lastly he did maintenance work at White Oak Estates, the old Pleasant Park, Siesta Park and Tower Park; he retired in the early 1990s. He loved playing the guitar, playing in a dance band, playing guitar in his band Nashville Sounds. He also played with the band “The Blazers” for a time. Robert enjoyed camping, traveling to music festivals, racing go-karts with his family and most of all spending time with his grandkids.

His family includes his wife of over 62 years, Barbara Moffet of Oskaloosa; three children, Deborah (David Pope) Vickers of Ottumwa, Sandra (and Jim) Jansen of Oskaloosa, and Terri (and Roy) Kool of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Heaton of Oskaloosa, JoAnn Kool of Oskaloosa and Beverly (and Paul) Floden of Oskaloosa; three brothers, Carl (and Beulah) Moffet of Mesa, Ariz., Bill (and Georgia) Moffet of California and Jerry Moffet of Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Alberta Moffet; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Kool and Charles Heaton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 9 A.M. until service time at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Robert Moffet Memorial Fund.
