OTTUMWA — Kenneth John Watson, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Ottumwa, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Aug. 26, 2013.
He was born April 17, 1943, in Ainsworth, the son of Lawrence and Lucille Watson.
Ken married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Jeanne Mikesell of Webster on Nov. 10, 1962. They had two children, Bryan John Watson and Debora Jeanne Allender (Watson) and made their life raising their children in Ottumwa. Ken worked as a driver for Roadway for 28 years throughout southeast Iowa and retired in January 2001. Ken and Bonnie moved to Bella Vista in October 2001, where they enjoyed fellowship with their many wonderful friends. In their retirement, Ken and Bonnie loved to go RVing, play cards and spend time with their grandchildren.
Ken spent time golfing and could often be found helping others around the community with moving or lending a helping hand. He loved watching college basketball and football.
Ken is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jeanne Mikesell Watson; son, Bryan Watson and his wife, Sherri of Olathe, Kan.; and grandson Eric and twin granddaughters, Sara and Anna; daughter, Debora Watson Allender of Liberty, Mo.; and granddaughters, Makenna and Mollie; four brothers, Jim and his wife, Eileen of Mount Pleasant, Gary and his wife, Sharon of Moberly, Mo., Larry and his wife, Shirley of Sigourney and Bob and his wife, Patsy of Fort Madison; a sister, Sheila and her husband, Ronald Chapman of Melbourne, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
A luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the South English fire station on Highway 22 with a graveside service following at 1 p.m. at Sorden Cemetery, Webster.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Circle of Life Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista and may be sent to 1002 S. Main, Liberty, Mo. 64068.
