OTTUMWA — Chris Dale Harland, 49, of 338 N. Weller St., died at 4:47 p.m. October 15, 2013, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born September 24, 1964, in Albia to Ernest “Bud” and Carolyn G. Hannan Harland Jr.
Chris had been a resident of Ottumwa all of his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1983 to 1992. He had been employed at Cargill Meat Solutions for the past 20 years.
Surviving are his parents, Ernest and Carolyn Harland Jr. of Ottumwa; two brothers, Kelly Harland of Monroe City, Mo., and Kevin Harland of Ottumwa; four sisters, Kimberly Jennings of North Carolina, Shelley Llanes of Knoxville, Cindy Harland and Stacey Hope Harland, both of Ottumwa; his grandmother, Betty McDavitt of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Leonard Harland; grandparents, Edward and Anna Hannan, Ernest Harland Sr. and Mark McDavitt.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
