OSKALOOSA — Marie Hibler, 96, of Oskaloosa, died July 28, 2013, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa.
She was born Saturday, March 24, 1917, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Fred Ervin and Janet Elizabeth Martin Rice. She graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1935. On Dec. 29, 1940, Marie was united in marriage to Lawrence L. Hibler at Lancaster, Mo., and he died May 8, 1995. Marie was a member of the C.C.C. Club. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, making quilts, Bingo and Skip-Bo. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. Marie will always be remembered for her selflessness.
She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Alvin) LeMar of Amodo, Ariz., Julia (Stephen) Fortney of St. Charles, Mo., and Connie (Stanley) Thomas of Newton; a son, David (Valarie) Hibler of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, Christopher LeMar, Brian LeMar, Corey Fortney, Sabrina Gabbard, Greg Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Jason Hibler and Jordan Hibler; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers and their wives, Martin and Florence Rice, Neal and Edith Rice and Harold and Martha Rice; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Don Phillips and Evelyn and Melvin Flemming.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Abel Cemetery east of Fremont.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
