OTTUMWA — Madine Bee Howard, 79, of Clearwater, Kan., formerly of New London and Ottumwa, died June 1, 2013, in Clearwater.
She was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Lois Johnson Chesser. On Aug. 9, 1950, she married Arthur E. Howard in Ottumwa. He died Nov. 16, 1989.
Mrs. Howard worked at IAAP in West Burlington and Metromail in Mt. Pleasant. She was also a day care provider for many years and loved babies and caring for them. She was of the Southern Baptist faith. She attended school in Ottumwa. She enjoyed John Wayne and Elvis Presley, crossword puzzles and reading. She collected salt and pepper shakers and sea shells. She loved music and dancing.
She is survived by one son, Tommy Howard of Austin, Texas; five daughters, Marcella Hanson and Samantha Burkart, both of Mt. Pleasant, Joyce (Ron) Purdie of Haysville, Kan., Henrietta Cousins and Terri (James) Sembach, both of New London; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and one sister, Joyce Wales of Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Shawn Hendricks, Arthur Howard and Brian Howard; three sisters, Avis Neiman, Clara Pringle and Leslie Woodward; and one brother, Robert Richardson.
Funeral service will be held at noon Monday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Blake Elliott and Jerry Teberg are celebrants. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon will be held at New London VFW Post 7641 following interment.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday with the family present.
