Ruth “Ruthie” Madeline Norris, 88, of Ottumwa, died Dec. 24, 2012, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.
She was born July 26, 1924, in New Sharon, the daughter of Tracey and Helen Hendrix Stewart. On July 10, 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” F. Norris in Lancaster, Mo, and he died May 15, 1983.
She graduated from the Lacey High School with the class of 1941. Ruth worked at Meadow Gold Dairy in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, playing cards, mowing her lawn, gardening and going for walks.
She is survived by her son, Terry (Alice) Norris of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Peggy (Dan) Hults of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Angela (Dan) Gruver of Des Moines, William S. Bowles of Johnston, Amy (Brad) Hammack of Ottumwa and Liz (Chad) Harbour of Oskaloosa; five great-grandchildren, Grant Michael Starkweather, Spencer Hammack, Ellie Hammack, Joey Harbour and Rylee Harbour; a brother, Vernon Stewart; and many close friends at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a great-grandchild; and a sister.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; with Rev. Gary West officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today in the Bates Funeral Chapel, with the family present from 6–8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.
