Myrtle Collins Vaughn, 93, Ottumwa


OTTUMWA — Myrtle “Myrt” Ruth Collins Vaughn, 93, of 123 Skyline Dr., died at 3:52 p.m. February 3, 2013 at home.

She was born August 5, 1919 in Eldon to William Wesley and Caroline Augusta Joselyn Thompson. She married Roy LaVerne Collins on June 29, 1937. He preceded her in death June 30, 1978. She married Don Vaughn on December 29, 1982.

She had worked at Agee’s Grocery and Younker’s.

Myrt was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church where she had served as a deacon, also a member of Plymouth Women’s Fellowship, Burlington Railroad Veterans and O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving is her husband, Don; a daughter, Sandra Merringer of Yuma, AZ; two sons, Jerry (Mary) Collins of Gower, MO and Raymond “Vernie” (Pamela) Collins of Flower Mound, TX; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vida Reber of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Eidth Haines, Ethel Davis, Mabel Reed and infant, Violet Thompson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Loyd Osborn officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church.
