Richard Durflinger, 90, of Eldon, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Feb. 7, 2013, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
Richard Durflinger was born on Nov. 11, 1922, in Wapello County, the son of Charles and Lula McCarroll Durflinger. On July 12, 1941, he married Mary Hunter in Baring, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1999.
He was educated in Wapello County and attended Agency High School. Richard loved being a lifelong farmer and this fall was still actively working on his own farm. He had also worked at John Morrell for several years. Richard was a member of the Eldon Christian Church for over 57 years, serving in offices as both elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Eldon and Batavia Lions Club and had served as a 4-H leader and a Washington Township Trustee. Richard enjoyed attending country music shows.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene Durflinger, Terry (Patti) Durflinger and Tom (Denise) Durflinger, all of Eldon, and Stephen (Janice) Durflinger of Batavia, 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Madeline Wymore of Ottumwa, Dorothy Phillips of Bladensburg and Ruth Black of Agency; and special friend, Louise Gladson of Eldon.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Eldon Christian Church; with Pastor Dave Bowden officiating. Burial will be in Sioc Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Eldon Christian Church.
A memorial fund is being established for the Eldon Christian Church.
