Carolyn Joan Woollums Avey, 77, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Ottumwa, lost her battle with cancer on Dec. 3, 2012.
She was born in Ottumwa on Oct. 4, 1935.
Carolyn had a varied employment history, including insurance and medical secretary, food broker sales representative and various accounting jobs within the Denver area. To keep busy, retirement was never in her future.
She enjoyed playing pinochle and bunco, bowling, lunching with friends, gardening, attending soccer games, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn loved to have family gatherings for any occasion but especially holidays. She traveled whenever possible within the United States and abroad.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, Kenneth C. Avey; brother, Marlin A. (Fran) Woollums; two daughters, Verdeda R. (Jerry Peer) Hawkins and Yvette J. (Marty) Behrent; son, Rodney L. Hawkins; stepson, Darrell D. Avey; four grandchildren, Melissa J. (Sean) Stedeford, Adam W. (Annie) Behrent, Justin L. (Joanne) Watt and Alisha R. Watt; two great-granddaughters, Leighla R. Watt and Allyanna E. Watt; and one great-grandson, Kenneth C. Watt.
