Junior Wade Moore, 89, of Ottumwa, died at 8:35 p.m. March 5, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born August 9, 1923 in Ottumwa to Virgil and Elsie Pugh Moore. He married Edith O. Blumer on October 8, 1943.
Junior was a 1941 graduate of Ottumwa High School. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army 149th Combat Engineers, landing on Omaha Beach, D-Day, June 6, 1944.
He worked for Atlas-Clausing, Prudential Insurance for 17 years, and then worked for 23 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Edith; a son, Bruce (Deb) Moore of Ottumwa; a granddaughter, Theresa (Randy) Malone of Ottumwa; two great-grandchildren, Drew (Chyeanna) Dirksen of Ottumwa and Chloe Dirksen of Ottumwa; a great-great-grandson, Parker Dirksen.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michele Dirksen; an infant brother, Elmer Moore; two sisters, Virginia Meier and infant, Katherine Moore.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
