Well, we know now, Aug. 29, 2008, that an historical event will take place on Nov. 4.

Either the first African-American will be elected president, or the first female will be elected vice-president.

Sen. John McCain on Friday selected as his vice presidential candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin from Alaska.

She is the first Republican woman named to a national ticket.

It’s the second time a woman has run for the No. 2 most powerful position in the United States of America. In 1984, U.S. Rep. Geraldine Ferraro was on the Democratic slate for vice president with presidential candidate Walter Mondale who lost to Republican Ronald Reagan.

This historic year, either Barack Obama will be elected our nation’s first African American president. Or, Palin will be our first woman vice president.

It’s heady times for political junkies.

And just down right exciting for all of us wanting our nation to go forward and keep being the most powerful country on earth. And, at the same time, do good things not only for the people of the world, but for all of us here in the U.S.A.

Whether Palin’s pick will invigorate Hillary Clinton supporters remains to be seen. Palin will debate Democratic vice presidential nominee, Sen.Joe Biden, at least once.

Voters are getting it all this time, the age issue, the experience issue, the race issue and the gender issue.

It’s up to all of us to pay attention and vote our choices wisely. We just watched the Democrats convene in Denver, Colo., and on Monday we can view the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn.

No matter what happens, this year we can truly say, may the best man OR woman win!

We hope that national media pundits and writers get done with mentioning the glass ceiling that Clinton cracked and Palin may break. Let’s not discuss race. Let’s not discuss gender.

Let’s discuss the issues and what we want our next president to accomplish. In the end, that is all that matters.
