Tempers flare at council
Our Opinion
I pledge my head to clearer thinking
my heart to greater loyalty
my hands to larger service
and my health to better living
for my club, my community, my country
and my world.
— 4-H Pledge
It sounds like some people need to heed the 4-H pledge. Monday night’s city council session was not the best example to show the “future leaders” of our community on how issues can be solved.
And speaking of 4-H members, why didn’t any of them speak? Or write letters to the editor?
It gets tiresome watching the parents duke it out.
There were some nasty moments at the council meeting where a majority of the council voted NOT to grant the Wapello County 4-H Expo a 10-year lease to use Sycamore Park for one week a year for the group’s annual exposition.
A 4-H extension representative made accusations to a council member.
The Expo lawyer questioned, more or less, why the council was even questioning a lease.
And all the pro-Expo people questioned all the council, suggesting that if they voted no (3 of the 5 did), that they were anti-youth.
