---- — ALBIA — Leona Mae Ostermeyer, 73, of Albia, passed away April 10, 2013, under the care of Monroe County Hospice at her home in Albia.

Leona was born Sept. 4, 1939, to Harold and Kathryn (Parker) McKim in Monroe County. She married Vernon LeRoy Ostermeyer on Oct. 6, 1956. After 54 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 17, 2011.

Leona grew up and attended school in Monroe County.

She worked at Chamberlain’s before working as a certified nurse’s assistant at Monroe County Hospital.

In 1980, Leona and LeRoy opened their business, L and L Distributing and retired self-employed in 2003.

Leona was a member of the Eagles and a bowling team. She enjoyed traveling, camping, watching birds and spending time with her family. She also was in a CB club with the handle, “Wonder Woman.”

Leona is survived by her children, Julie M. (Allan) Barnes of Albia, April L. (Gaylon) Propp of Whitewood, S.D., Raymond W. Ostermeyer of Ottumwa and Patricia J. Ostermeyer (John Johnston) of Albia; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Leona is also survived by her siblings, Jerry (Sandy) McKim, Paul (Rhonda) McKim, Ed (Bonnie) McKim, Beverly Barker, Alzina (Ken) Bentley, Dorothy (Dick) Survis, Carol (Ray) Stephens, Rosie (Keith) Tipton, Rita (Vince) Crall, Geraldine Stewart, Norma (Cal) Scales, Kathy (Brad) Edmundson, Barb (Dan) Casper and Jane McKim; a brother-in-law, Frank (Lorainne) Marts of Wokonda, S.D.; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Leona (Pete) Marshall of Lafayette, Ind., and Pearl (Orville) Heck of Princeton, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her parents; one son, LeRoy Jr.; one daughter, Angel; a sister, Diane Valentine; a brother, Harold McKim; two brothers-in-law, Jim and Raymond Martz; and three sisters-in-law, Clara Puls, Ada Purdy and Mary Martz.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; Pastor John Van Weelden officiating. A private family burial will be in Selection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Leona’s family present from 4-6 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Monroe County Hospice.
