Tell us your survivor story

Ottumwa Courier

---- — The world is filled with stories. Some make front-page news while others get hidden and are never told.

Stories of people who overcome obstacles should have a place to make their voices heard.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Courier would like to share the stories of those who have suffered, survived and moved forward in victory when confronted with breast cancer. We want to celebrate the way survivors persevere, adapt and find faith to battle and win.

This is the opportunity to share positive and encouraging news with the people around us. Someone who is currently fighting breast cancer for the first time can find strength and wisdom in the words of someone who has already been through it. A caregiver or family member can get the encouragement they need because someone else understands. And someone who is struggling through a new diagnosis will know that they're not alone.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, we want to share your story with our readers. Send us your story in 500 words or less and include a great photo that you think shares your message. Five stories will be chosen to run during October.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. If you would like your photo back, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Send you story and photo to:
