---- — OTTUMWA — The changes at Ottumwa’s largest doctors’ office should be easy to deal with: a new name, combined offices and a week off.

Ottumwa Internal Medicine North and Ottumwa Family Practice and Specialties clinics have joined Mercy Clinics, Inc. According to a press statement from Mercy, these two practices have been part of Ottumwa’s health care for years. Next week, the smaller Ottumwa Family Practice will relocate to the existing Ottumwa Internal Medicine North offices, located in the clinic building at 1005 Pennsylvania Ave., near Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The newly combined clinic will be named “Mercy Ottumwa Medical Clinic” and will begin operations on July 8. As part of the transition to Mercy, the existing clinics in Ottumwa will be closed July 1-5 to facilitate training for providers and staff. An answering service will be available to answer emergency calls.

Future appointments scheduled with listed providers will remain in place. Doctors will continue to have access to general medical records, including prescription refill information.

Mercy Clinics is owned by Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The changeover in Ottumwa is effective July 1. As of that date, longtime Ottumwa physician Dr. Peter Reiter will be the clinic medical director.
