OTTUMWA — There are loads of interesting and exciting items on the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
Included in the public hearing portion of the meeting will be the recommendation of the pass and adoption of the approval of the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for the second contract of the 2010 Flood Protection Mitigation Project.
The project has already begun with the first phase, which consists of the installation of a pipe under a portion of Gateway Drive to McLean Street. There will be four phases of the project, with the last two coming after the turn of the year, and the entire project is supposed to be completed by December 2014.
There will also be several other street repair programs that are completed and ready for payments from the city. The Asphalt Street Repair Program 2013, Tindell Street Sanitary Sewer Project, Street Crack Repair Program 2013 and Phase V, Division I, of the South Ottumwa Sewer Separation Project are all complete and awaiting final payments, should City Council pass and adopt the resolutions.
10-15 Regional Transit Agency, who has been under management services provided by the city since the early 1990s, will also come up a few times on the agenda.
The first, and more important, recommendation about 10-15 Transit will be the recommendation for City Council to pass and adopt a resolution that will rescind the current three-year contract between 10-15 Transit and the city. The contract between the two ends on Dec. 31 of this year, so instead of continuing on with another contract, 10-15 Transit will self-manage its employees and operations.
The other item that involves 10-15 Transit is a recommendation for City Council to pass and adopt a resolution that would approve a five-year lease agreement to share the city’s transit offices and garage. Located at 2417 S. Emma St., the garage and offices are currently home to 10-15Transit, so they won’t have to move once the contract with the city is ended.
