OTTUMWA — If the cooler air and turning leaves haven't convinced you winter is on the way, maybe this will.
Ottumwa crews will shut down the Jefferson Street viaduct Monday morning for the annual application of linseed oil to the road and walkway. The oil is an annual part of the preparation for the winter months. The oil offers some protection against the effects of the salt used to melt snow and ice.
Crews will close the viaduct after 8:30 a.m. Monday. The city says the work should be completed within the day, though it has not given a specific time for the work to wrap up.
