OTTUMWA - The recent cold weather provided excellent conditions to bring more eagles to the Des Moines River in time for the Wapello County Trails Council’s eighth annual Eagle Watch.
The event, a celebration of the eagles that make Ottumwa their home during the winter was held at Bridge View Center. The purpose of the event is to celebrate Ottumwa's spectacular eagles in residence, hike along the river trail, learn about birds of prey and enjoy talented works by local photographers on exhibit.
More than 20 exhibitors had displays to share, including live birds of prey. Exhibitors included everything from the Department of Natural Resources and Ottumwa Convention and Visitors Bureau to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H groups.
Viewing scopes were available inside Bridge View Center. Visitors brought their cameras to capture the eagles perched along the trail, feeding along the levee and flying over the Des Moines River.
