---- — OTTUMWA — Eating a delicious dinner can be the highlight of any evening, but it will hopefully just be the start of a very entertaining night on Friday.
Main Street Ottumwa’s second annual Murder Mystery dinner kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday in the Hotel Ottumwa Ballroom. The dinner is a very popular event in Ottumwa, and unfortunately tickets are no longer on sale because the event has sold out for the second consecutive year.
Bob Untiedt, executive director of Main Street Ottumwa, said they are considering adding an extra night to the event because it has sold out both years.
“We have had some consideration with making it two nights,” he said.
The night is a fundraiser event for Main Street Ottumwa, and it starts with a delicious Irish-themed dinner provided by Hotel Ottumwa.
Then guests will get to watch a special murder mystery skit. This year’s script is about two Irish families who are fighting over a recipe and has a little bit of a Hatfield and McCoy feel.
After the skit, the night will get a little sweeter with a dessert auction to close out the evening. Emcee Brian Morgan will auction off the desserts, and winners can either share with their table or save their prize for later.
Last year, the dessert auction was a big hit and raised a lot of money for the fundraiser. One cake was even auctioned off for $200.
As mentioned, this year's murder mystery has already sold out. Untiedt said officials from Main Street Ottumwa will continue talks about expanding the night into a two-day event and that there are a lot of people who need to sit down and have a conversation about the possibilities.
“We are a volunteer-led organization, so a lot of people need to talk things over," he said.
